Information for referrers

About Valere Health
Valere Health is a specialised exercise physiology practice supporting people living with and beyond cancer. Our team of PhD-qualified exercise oncologists use cutting-edge research, an understanding of each individual's diagnosis and treatment plan, and person-centred care to develop programs that improve quality of life and treatment outcomes.

The evidence for referral
Exercise improves outcomes across a cancer diagnosis addressing treatment-related side effects including fatigue, sleep, neuropathy, bone strength, fitness, nausea, and immune function, as well as improving treatment-completion rates and preserving quality of life. Structured exercise has been shown to reduce colon cancer disease recurrence by 28% and improve overall survival by 37%, comparable to some drug therapies.

Medicare-supported referral pathway

If your patient can obtain a CDM/EPC GPMP/TCA, please include the following in your referral:

  • 3–5 services with an Exercise Physiologist, Item number 10953

  • Referral to Valere Health, 400 Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill QLD 4000

Three ways to refer

You can refer your patient through whichever pathway works best for your practice:

  1. Book a free 15-minute clinician call, refer your patient directly into a brief phone consultation with one of our exercise oncologists to discuss their situation and determine the right program. Bookings via our online portal

  2. Book an initial assessment, refer your patient straight into a full initial assessment through our online portal

  3. Send a referral to our admin team, email or fax your referral letter and we'll be in touch with your patient directly to arrange an appointment.

For Clients
Eligibility & Getting Referred

Do I need a referral?

No, you don't need a referral to come and see us!
Valere Health works with people living with and beyond cancer, across all cancer types and all phases of the cancer continuum. If you are currently in treatment, in recovery, or managing cancer as a long-term condition, you may be eligible to access our exercise oncology programs.

Making your sessions more affordable

If you have a GP or specialist, ask them about a CDM/EPC GPMP/TCA Medicare plan. Under this plan, a referral for 3–5 sessions with an Exercise Physiologist (Item number 10953) can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs. Your GP can refer you directly to Valere Health.

Private health rebates and GenesisCare rebates are also available depending on your cover.

You don't need a referral to reach out to us. If you'd like to understand your options before booking, we offer a free 15-minute phone call with one of our clinicians - no commitment, just a conversation about where you're at and how we can help.
