Prehab - Preparing for surgery or transplant
Cardiovascular fitness and strength has been shown to improve surgical and transplant outcomes. Valere Health specialises in preparing individualised treatment plans to give you the best opportunity of success. Our plans focus on targeted exercise to boost immune function, strength, and fitness along with site specific preparation.
During treatment
Exercise has been shown to improve side effects to treatment, improve your ability to complete treatment, and improve the effectiveness of therapies like chemotherapy and immunotherapy. During treatment exercise levels have also been associated with reduced risks of recurrence post treatment. Valere is at the forefront of scientific research and has experience with working and managing the side effects across many different therapy types. Each treatment plan is tailored to you, your treatment, and your goals.
Survivorship plans
Finished treatment what now? or on long term treatments such a maintenance chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or hormone therapy? Looking to return to work? Valere Health has helped hundreds of people return to work and life post cancer treatment and manage long-term side effects. We provide you with a tailored plan to address your goals and manage your symptoms. We utilised targeted exercise doses to reduce your chance of recurrence and get you back doing what you love.

Funding exercise as part of treatment
The funding scheme that Valere Health encourages clients to use is via Medicare.
Medicare provide access to five (5) rebates for allied health which includes Exercise Physiology through a scheme they call an GP management plan (GPMP), Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC) or Team Care Arrangement.
Australians are eligible for this program every calendar year. It will provide you with 5x rebates of $60.30 (this changes with inflation).
You need a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) to access this program. Download this template letter for your GP.
This letter explains the scheme and the benefits of exercise for people with a cancer diagnosis. If you need further information for your GP, please get in touch and we will provide more detailed information to take to your appointment.
Private Health Coverage
Exercise physiology services are also covered through private health extras cover. Valere Health has a HICAPS machine where you can claim onsite. If you are unsure if your extra cover includes Exercise Physiology, you can call your provider and check. Generally, clients get anywhere from $10 to $85 back from their private health extras cover.
Government Assistance
Valere Health is a registered provider for NDIS and DVA, meaning if your diagnosis is recognised by either of these schemes you will be able to access fully subsidised Exercise Physiology.
PanCare
If you have an upper GI cancer diagnosis contact us today for information on how you can receive a subsidised initial assessment.
Over 60?
We have received funding for anyone of the age of 60 to access partially subsidised exercise oncology. Contact us today to find out how to access this scheme.
Valere Health is always engaging with non-for-profit organisations and government to seek funding for free community based exercise programs for people with cancer, so please reach out if you have interest in supporting, providing or funding these programs.
Virtual or Home-Based
Exercise Programs
We also provide our services via telehealth or home-based programs. As Brisbane's only oncology specific practice we understand not everyone can travel to our location or you may prefer to exercise at your own home or gym and we can make this possible for you!
Group Classes
Group classes at Valere Health create a social support network of like-minded individuals. They are a safe space and range from cancer specific (e.g., breast cancer) groups, high intensity circuit classes, to low intensity pilates based classes. There is something for everyone and start from just $15!
